It was a hot one today... popsicles on repeat right here at our favorite cafe!
Typically it’s our modern playhouse that’s highlighted here the most, however this kit playhouse also gets lots of love and use from our kids! Proving that it doesn’t matter how you build it...they will come! So, if you’ve been on the fence about investing one for your kids, I urge you to go for it!!! It’s been the best foundation for their outdoor play and imagination development...even a tent or stick teepee can accomplish this. Watching my kids in their own space, grow, learn and build confidence is so rewarding...plus, by giving them their own store/shop/cafe - means that for once, I’m the one waited on 😉

And to think roses weren’t meant for my garden. In planning things out last year, I made a conscious decision to exclude them. They’re thorny, at times straggly in shape and frankly have a bad rap. Then on a trip to @homedepot I told P & K they could both pick out one special thing for the garden. And of course K insists on a rose 🤔. I very begrudgingly carried that thing home...and low and behold K took such care of it. Watering it often, cutting off fresh blooms to share (which by the way smell heavenly)...and somewhere along the way my three year old opened my eyes to their beauty... so much so that This season we planted another 15?! Parenthood’s funny that way. I’ve learned so many beautiful lessons from my children. The way they view the world and their pure, uninhabited curiosity for things. Never are things judged and typically only the good is seen. I hope to be half as good of a mother as what my children are to me! Listen to our children, for they hold the answers (unless they’re insisting on cake for breakfast, then all bets are off 😉)

For a long time our interior space has felt super daunting, mainly because it needs to be completely gutted. Which is exactly what we did with our first house. Brian and I loved every second and challenge of it! In those first years of marriage and homeownership late nights and entire weekends were dedicated to that house. It brought us closer together as a couple and taught us the real value of hard work and persistence. Soon that house was a home, then kids, then life. With this second house, for so long I kept comparing the progress to the first. The word “can’t” was used a lot. “We can’t stay up late and renovate, because we’re up late with newborn twins” etc. I’ve now realized that life has seasons, and what worked in one chapter may not work in another. Maybe we “can’t” renovate the way we use to. But we sure “can” do it. This interior renovation can and will get done...just on a whole different timeline and in a whole different way. So for now, I’m so grateful for the small functional wins we have here - like our recent kitchen hack (shared in highlights under kitchen). Because above all else, I’m now wanting to find joy in the ordinary now, vs waiting for it all to be done and perfect 😉
