Twin Pregnancy | 13 Weeks

Twin Pregnancy First Trimester

Yah!  We've made it through the first trimester and the twins are starting to show!  After sharing with you our exciting news, I've enjoyed experiencing all that pregnancy brings ~ the good and the bad.  The first 7 weeks turned out to be fairly standard and to some degree quite easy for a twin pregnancy.  But I quickly realized I underestimated this whole pregnancy thing.  Weeks 8-12 turned out to be quite a doozy ~ who knew morning sickness could actually be all day, everyday sickness?!  And while I was beyond exhausted, I experienced a whole different world of sleep insomnia.    Normal tasks like walking to the mailbox or cooking dinner felt more like running a marathon and thanks to the hormone progesterone, shortness of breath can strike at any moment.  Try explaining to the Publix cashier why you're completely out of breath after lifting a gallon of milk ~ super awkward!  And don't even get me started on the constant need to pee.  I'm now like a human GPS for restrooms.  While none of this sounds like fun, and as cliche as it is, you quickly find yourself appreciating and accepting the not-so-enjoyable stuff.  It's quite miraculous to watch and feel your body act in ways you can't control; all with a final goal that's way bigger than you are.  I mean you're making a baby for goodness sakes!  So, the past few weeks, I've learned to just take it easy, go with the flow and appreciate that the babies are growing big and healthy.

Everyone says the second trimester is the easiest and I'm starting to see what they mean.  It's as if someone just flips a switch.  I'm getting some energy back, eating finally sounds appealing and (knock on wood), I'm only waking up once or twice during the night!

13 WEEKS

HOW BIG ARE THE BABIES?

Both the size of a Peach

EXCITING DEVELOPMENTS THIS WEEK:

They've developed the sucking reflex and are able to move their hands and feet.  This week they may just learn how to suck on their thumbs ~ cute!

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK:

 My Bump

really

started to show!  And I loved that Brian and I had a vacation in Savannah and Tybee ~ it was great to have some quality time with just the two of us.

CRAVINGS:

Not so much one thing, but more of crazing cravings right before meal time.  We pretty much plan for grocery trips right before dinner as I change my mind constantly.  And I'm still having significant food aversions ~ chicken, spicy food and salads are on my 'ew gross' list right now, which is weird because this is what I typically love to eat.

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN:

 1.8lbs

WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO:

Finding out the Genders this month!
